rec plus baseball program overview

Welcome to AJAA Rec Plus Baseball!

Rec Plus is an additional opportunity for players in AJAA Little League to be on a team in which the players practice more, play additional games and compete against other leagues in a stronger competitive environment. Players must try out for the team, pay additional fees above and beyond the normal AJAA Little League registration fees, and participate in team activities in the winter leading up to the season. The Rec Plus season is played simultaneously as the recreational season is played until the end of the recreation league season through the summer. Rec Plus players will play on AJAA Little League recreational teams as well as being a member of the Rec Plus team.

Rec Plus is a developmental opportunity and experience for players that have an interest in being challenged more by their coaches and introduced to new additional skills that will help prepare them for future baseball experiences.

AGE DIVISIONS

Each age group 9-14 will be permitted to have (1) or (2) teams if enough players desire to participate and managers commit to leading the team. Each team will have a maximum of 12 players, thus if there are enough players in an age group to field two teams of 12, then 24 players may participate from each age group.

SPORT SEASON
In order to play at high levels, the teams will practice in the winter months and through the Spring season.

In January & February, Rec Plus players will have 6 indoor training sessions at Samps Hack Shack to learn, practice, and execute the fundamental skills of hitting, throwing, catching, base running, situational baseball and all other aspects of the game.

AJAA understands many players play other sports (AJAA encourages playing multiple sports) in the Fall and Winter but if no conflicts, request players make their best effort to get to team activities as scheduled.

In March through June, Rec Plus players will play on their rec team.  We will continue to honor player/coach/team requests as best as possible with an effort to create reasonable parity between the teams.  These teams are known as the recreational (rec) league.  Under Little League organizational rules, no player is eligible for the Little League World Series (LLWS) tournament unless he plays 12 games on a traditional rec league team.  In addition, each rec league team is limited in the number of players that can play as part of the LLWS tournament.  This is how Little League ensures that no rec league team consists solely of Rec Plus players.  Rec league baseball will continue in the same fashion as it does today.

In May & June, Rec Plus will participate in 5 Sunday Showcase games.  Showcase games are typically played Sunday and will be local, if not hosted at AJAA.

In June & July, Rec Plus will participate in 4 tournaments.

Rec Plus Tournament games will occur after the spring season is completed and will run through July.  These tournaments will be around Central Indiana and will include the Little League District 8 Tournament.  We also are excited to introduce and play in the 2020 Inaugural Oriole Invitational, held at our AJAA Fields! Tournament selection will occur as rec season is finishing up.

In terms of time expectations, rec league will continue with the expectation of 2-3 events per week.  The Rec Plus participants will be expected to participate in all rec league events plus 1-2 additional events per week.  This means Rec Plus participants can expect 4-5 days of baseball per week during the season.

EQUIPMENT INCLUDED
Each Rec Plus player will receive 2 jerseys, hat, batting helmet and bat bag, unique for our Rec Plus program.

EVALUATIONS
Evaluations will occur August 7th from 7-9pm at AJAA Baseball/Softball park (866 S CR 625 E Avon IN 46123).  This will allow the AJAA Baseball Committee to create the strongest team available for each age level. Players may be asked to fill-in from one team to the other within an age group if players are unable to attend games and tournaments.

COST
Cost of Rec Plus is as follows:
9U – 12U - $550

**the AJAA $50 Family fee may apply as it is charged once per family/year
