MISSION
The mission of Avon Youth Sports Basketball is to teach basketball fundamentals and to prepare our players to move on to the next level. The goal is to see that each and every player becomes better at basketball from the beginning until the end of the season. We encourage all of our coaches to focus on teamwork and to teach what it takes to be successful both on and off of the court. We encourage players to be respectful to their coaches, fellow players, and their opponents. We promote an active and healthy lifestyle. We encourage players to rise to the challenge and give their all to help their team win. It is also our mission to teach players that team sports require a team effort, and it takes an entire team playing together and working toward a common goal. Most importantly, to be successful in life you must be successful in the classroom. Being a super star athlete is not guaranteed to anyone and there are many things an athlete cannot control. By focusing on academics, you dramatically increase your chances of being successful in life.

ELIGIBILITY
Leagues are determined by the grade the player is in for the current school year (2025-2026). Players that make a high school team are not allowed to participate in the Avon Youth Sports Recreational Basketball League.
BASKETBALL SEASON
All divisions will begin play in either December 2025 or January 2026. The basketball season typically concludes right before Spring Break (mid-March) with tournaments for all divisions. Championship Saturday is tentatively scheduled for March 14, 2025.
Practices will begin on or around the week of 12/01/25 for Boys, grades 1-6.
Practices will begin on or around the week of 01/05/26 for Coed KG & Girls, grades 1-6.
Practices will begin on or around the week of 01/05/26 for Middle School & High School divisions.

*Early Bird Discount will auto apply at check-out during the dates listed above.
**Rec+ division pricing is higher than regular Rec. division pricing due to additional practices and games. Rec+ participants must attend evaluations.
REGISTRATION
Registration is available from September 5 - November 2, 2025.
**If you have a player trying out for a school team that wants to play Avon Youth Sports Basketball in the event they do not make a school team, please register them early to ensure they have a spot. If they make a school team, per the Refund Policy, you will be issued a full refund minus the transaction fee.
PRACTICES AND GAMES
Basketball practices and games will be on weeknights and on Saturdays. Typically, most teams do not have activities on the same night of the week from week to week. Activity will vary based on school availability and blackout dates.
We depend HEAVILY on volunteers for Coaches, Assistant Coaches, League Coordinators and Committee members to make the season run smoothly. Please consider volunteering when registering your player!
Once we have reached the point where there are enough volunteer coaches with background checks cleared, we will be able to proceed with drafting our teams. Evaluations will proceed as indicated on the evaluations schedule (typically the first full week of November; however, this depends on if we have enough volunteers with cleared background checks).
Please note: League and Grade specific practice days/times will not be determined until after registration has closed. Coed Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades (boys and girls) will have 45-minute practices to help get our younger players home at an earlier time.
Practices and games will be held in Avon Community School Corporation's elementary schools, Intermediate West, and Avon High School. These gyms enable us to accommodate the 1,100+ children that participate in our basketball program. Because of our partnership and the excellent rapport between the school district and the Town of Avon, we are able to provide such an extensive program. Please help us maintain this relationship and respect the school property.
GEAR REQUIRED
AYS will provide uniform shirts. Players are asked to supply their own basketball and water bottle (please put player's name on both ball and water bottle)!
