**Playing age for Spring 2022 Recreational Softball is based on age of player as of 1.1.2022 for 8U-13/18U. (The age of your daughter as of January 1, 2022 will determine what division she will play in during the Spring league)
AJAA SPRING REC SOFTBALL SEASON
Teams will have 90 minute practices twice weekly for the first two weeks and then once weekly once games commence. Practice days and times will be determined once players are rostered to teams, but practices are generally scheduled on weeknights from either 5:30-7:00 or 7:00-8:30. We try to schedule the younger leagues in the earlier time slots when possible.
Each team will play two 70 minute games per week (weather permitting). 10U, 12U, and 13-18U games are played Monday through Thursday evenings. 8U games are “double headers” played on Saturday mornings and early afternoons (scheduled back to back whenever possible). We are still working to determine what days we will play 6U games.
All practices are held at our fields located at 866 S CR 625 E in Avon, however game locations can alternate with our community partners. Currently, we are slated to play with these communities in our Spring 2022 season: Danville, Plainfield, Tri-West, and Speedway
***Please be reminded that these plans are tentative and subject to change based on guidelines from our health and government officials to ensure everyone’s health and safety. We will keep families updated as dates near.

EVALUATIONS
Evaluations are an important part of the team rostering process. Evaluation scores are used to help ensure that fair and equal teams are formed in the coach’s draft process. On evaluation day, a group of coaches will bring your player through a series of hitting, pitching, catching, and throwing exercises. Your player will be assigned a confidential score in each category and those scores will be used during the drafts to help ensure a variety of talent is placed on each team.
Evals for 8U, 10U, 12U and 13-18U are scheduled for Sunday March 13th at the Avon High School field house (enter through door #28) from 10am to 2pm. Leagues 8U-13/18U are required to attend. 6U does not attend evals.
Teams will be rostered by March 18th - parents will be able to see their player's team in the Team Manager app by then.
DRAFTS
All Spring Rec Softball teams will be formed using a snake draft based on evaluation scores.
Head Coaches are permitted to pick two assistant coaches prior to the draft. All coaches will have their own daughters and their assistant coach’s daughters on their team. After those players are set, a snake draft will occur based on evaluation scores.
HEAD COACHES & ASSISTANT COACHES NEEDED
AJAA is always in need of head coaches and assistant coaches to coach our softball teams for the season. If you would like to coach, please be sure to “volunteer” when registering your child in your AJAA account so you appear on our coaches list. YOU MUST REGISTER YOURSELF TO BE A HEAD COACH OR ASSISTANT COACH!
All coaches must pass a background check to be “cleared” by AJAA to coach. Once you volunteer in your account to coach, AJAA will be notified. If you don't have a clear background check on file, you will be emailed info on how to take a background check. Background checks are good for 3 years.
Any new coaches that sign up must pass their background check prior to the draft meeting or they will not be able to attend drafts to pick their team.
GEAR REQUIRED
AJAA will provide players with uniform shirts. Players in 8U may wear shorts or softball pants (whatever they are comfortable in). Players in 10U and up leagues are encouraged to wear black softball pants. No metal cleats are allowed in any of our leagues. Please see above informational paragraphs for each league for a more detailed equipment list.
