AYS offers recreational and instructional leagues for girls (06U), coach pitch (08U) and fast pitch (10U and up) softball intended to:
- Involve everyone in a positive team experience
- Develop fundamental softball skills
- Build player confidence
- Practice good sportsmanship
- Consider all players as WINNERS regardless of score!

**Playing age for Spring 2025 Recreational Softball is based on the athlete's age as of Jan. 1, 2025 for 08U-13/18U.
PLEASE NOTE: Players that make a Middle School or High School team are not eligible to participate in both AYS Rec. Softball and a school team. AYS does encourage players to register for Rec. Softball so they claim their spot. In the event the athlete makes a school team, a refund will be issued if AYS is notified immediately after team selection has taken place. AYS SPRING REC SOFTBALL SEASON
Teams will have practices twice weekly for the first two weeks and then once weekly once games begin. Practice days and times will be determined once players are rostered to teams, but practices are generally scheduled on weeknights from either 5:30pm-7:00pm or 7:00pm - 8:30pm. We try to schedule the younger leagues in the earlier time slots when possible.
Each team will play two 70-minute games per week (weather permitting). 10U, 12U, and 13-18U games are played Monday through Thursday evenings. 8U games are “double headers” played on Saturday mornings and early afternoons (scheduled back-to-back whenever possible). We are still working to determine what days we will play 6U games.
All practices are held at our fields located at 866 S. CR 625 E. in Avon; however, game locations can alternate with our community partners.

REGISTRATION
Registration for Spring Rec Softball opens Jan. 6, 2025, and will close on March 2, 2025 at midnight.
PRACTICES AND GAMES
Practices are tentatively scheduled to begin on or around Monday, April 7th. Games will start on or around Saturday, April 19th. The season will conclude in mid-June.

EVALUATIONS
Sunday, March 9, 2025 | Location: D-Bat Avon (located at 7508 Beechwood Centre Rd.) for all divisions except 6U. 6U players do not attend evaluations.
6:00pm - 8:00pm: 8U & 10U division evaluations
7:30pm - 9:00pm: 12U, 14U, and 13-18U division evaluations
Evaluations are an important part of the team rostering process! Evaluation scores are used to help ensure that fair and equal teams are formed in the coach’s draft process. On evaluation day, a group of coaches will bring your player through a series of hitting, pitching, catching, and throwing exercises. Your player will be assigned a confidential score in each category and those scores will be used during the drafts to help ensure a variety of talent is placed on each team.
Teams will be rostered, at which time parents will be able to see their player's team in the Game Changer app. on your smartphone.
DRAFTS
All teams will be formed using a snake draft based on evaluation scores. Head Coaches are permitted to pick two Assistant Coaches prior to the draft. All coaches will have their own daughters and their Assistant Coach’s daughters on their team. After those players are set, a snake draft will occur based on evaluation scores.

AYS is always in need of Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches. If you would like to coach, please be sure to also register as a volunteer when registering your child in your AYS account. Background Check required.
