2024 Fall Lacrosse

The mission of the Fall Lacrosse program is to re-introduce lacrosse to Avon youth in grades KG-8 and help to instill a love for the game in each athlete by:
  • Creating a fun environment for everyone to learn and grow
  • Teaching lacrosse fundamentals to both athletes and parent volunteers
  • Promoting teamwork through competition
  • Developing confidence in athletes by celebrating the process of learning, rather than outcomes or end results

The program will use the USA Lacrosse Flex 6 Model of play to teach the fundamentals of lacrosse in a way that is flexible, fully non-contact and fun! Because the program is non-contact, it eliminates the burden of protective pads, equipment and gear. The only thing needed is a stick!

AYS designed this pilot program specifically to fill the gap between Fall and Winter sports so there is no conflict or overlap with existing sports programs. The program will run in the Fall and feed into the existing Avon Lacrosse Club teams for the Spring season. Ultimately, we hope to grow this program into the size and structure of other AYS sports.

Practices and games will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at the AYS Fields, located at 866 S. Co. Rd. 625 E., Avon. Please visit the Fall Lacrosse page for the most up to date season details HERE.

GEAR REQUIRED
AYS will provide players with a reversible pinnie.

Players are asked to provide:
  • Lacrosse Stick – Please review the stick recommendations and links to purchase below. If you prefer to not purchase a stick, Avon Lacrosse Club is providing lacrosse sticks to rent during this program. These sticks are not top of the line, but they are sufficient for athletes to use as they learn.
  • Cleats are recommended as we play on grass but are not required. (Metal spikes or track specific cleats are not allowed.)

LACROSSE STICK RECOMMENDATIONS
Please note: Men’s and women’s lacrosse sticks are very different. The pocket is much deeper on a men’s stick so it’s easier to keep the ball inside and therefore less frustrating for beginners. For the sake of this program, we will not disallow “incorrect” sticks. However, if you are purchasing a stick, we recommend you purchase the equipment your child would use regardless of this program, as you are also investing in their continued interest in the sport.
There is a wide range of price points to consider when purchasing equipment. Our selection below are great options for beginners. 3v3 AHS Basketball Developmental League 2024

Join Avon High School Boys Basketball Head Coach Drew Schauss and his coaching staff and players on Sunday evenings in September starting on 9/8/24 for the annual 3v3 developmental league. During these sessions, each player will be coached by the High School coaching staff and current high school players. Fundamentals and skill development will be focused on for the first 30 minutes of each session. The following 30 minutes will be used to play. Spectators are welcome!

WHEN: Sunday – 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM (Grades 3-5), drop off and pick up at Door 31
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM (grades 6-8), drop off and pick up at Door 31

ACTIVITIES: Instruction, ballhandling development, implementing drills and skills
that can be used at home, games and activities, older athletes will learn defensive
and offensive concepts that the high school implements

WHAT TO BRING: Water bottle, athletic shoes, athletic clothing, and a positive
attitude! Can bring a basketball, but please have name on the ball!

Tackle Football Summer Clinics

Each Sunday this summer, Avon Youth Sports is offering a Tackle Football Clinic for FREE. Anyone is welcome to attend even if you aren't registered to play football. 

The focus of this clinic will be on proper skills and drills that provide growth & development in the game of football. 

When: Sundays, 6/16 - 7/28

Time: 6pm - 7:30pm 

Location: Avon Middle School North (main field)

Please bring cleats and water. This will be unpadded (no helmet / no pads)

Junior Orioles Baseball

Junior Orioles Baseball, powered by Avon Baseball Club, is Avon Youth Sports' try-out based travel program that is offered to 8–12-year-olds (based on 2025 Little League Age Chart). There is no charge to try-out, but please pre-register. Offers will be sent via email following try-outs, and fees would apply at the time of offer acceptance. Participants will practice at minimum once per week beginning in January 2025, and will play in multiple local tournaments around the Indianapolis area. The season will run from January - July 2025.

The JO Baseball fee will include off-season workouts, four summer tournaments, 2 Jerseys, a hat, a batting helmet, & a bat bag. Participants will need to register separately for Spring 2025 Little League Baseball.

Participants will be eligible to try-out if they reside, or the physical location of the school where they attend classes, is within the boundaries shown on the map under Participant Eligibility Requirements HERE.

Tryouts for 7u, 8u, 9u, 10u, & 11u are scheduled for Monday July 8th and Tuesday July 9th from 6-7:30pm; 12u is scheduled for Monday July 15th & Tuesday July 16th 6-7:30pm at the AYS Fields (866 S County Rd 625 E, Avon IN 46123).
